UK-based printing presses manufacturer Edale has partnered with the technology provider FFEI to develop a new digital printing press Graphium.

Based on Edale's FL-3 conventional platform, the new printing technology incorporates technologies like 1001 print heads from Cambridge-based Xaar and Uvijet Graphium inks from FujiFilm Speciality Ink Systems.

Graphium can be used in printers and converters that produce labels, packaging and specialty print, while the press has capability to support about five digital modules and six flexo stations.

The new digital press also offers users the ability to combine optional flexo and finishing stations inline for conversion in a single pass.

FFEI Digital Print Sales & Marketing head Peter Walsh said Edale were a natural choice for the company as they had the experience and know-how it needed to make the Graphium project a success.

"The team at Edale have been a pleasure to work with and have delivered great results at every development stage," Walsh added.

Graphium is currently available in 330mm or 410mm web widths, while the company is planning to launch a wider version of the press following demand in future.
